What a rebuilt brand means

A salvage vehicle that was repaired and passed the province’s inspection, so it can be put back on the road. The Rebuilt brand stays on its record.

Rebuilt
A Salvage vehicle that was repaired and passed the provincial inspection. It can be licensed again, and the status shows on its ICBC record.
Rules differ by province, so check with your registry before you buy, repair or register a vehicle.

Questions buyers ask

Is a rebuilt brand the same as a rebuilt title?

Canada doesn’t use vehicle titles. Each province records a status brand against the vehicle’s registration instead, and a rebuilt brand is the closest thing to a US rebuilt title.

How can I tell whether an inspection certificate is attached?

The Score says whether the seller attached one, and only a Rebuilt brand with its certificate attached can score 80 or more. Ask to see it before you pay.

What does the Score on each listing mean?

It rates the listing out of 100 from its answers on the brand, damage, condition and paperwork, with the reasons shown. We don’t inspect vehicles, so it’s only a guide.

How do I buy one of these vehicles?

Create a free account and offer above or below the asking price. If the seller accepts, you pay an introduction fee and the seller pays a success fee. Once both fees are paid, you swap contact details and arrange payment and pickup. DNF never handles the money for the vehicle.
