About DNF

DNF stands for "Damaged. Not Finished." It's a marketplace for salvage, crash-damaged, rebuilt, project and parts-only vehicles in Canada and the United States.

Sellers are owners, often people who kept a vehicle after their insurance company declared it a total loss, and body shops and small rebuilders. Buyers are people who repair, rebuild or part out vehicles: home mechanics, rebuild shops, recyclers, exporters and enthusiasts.

What DNF does

A seller lists a vehicle with the facts that decide what it's worth: the brand on its registration or title, the damage, what still works, and photos. Every listing gets a Score out of 100, worked out from those answers.

Buyers make offers above or below the asking price. After the seller accepts one and any required platform fees on both sides are paid, we give each side the other's contact details. They arrange the sale and pay the vehicle price directly between themselves. How DNF works goes through it step by step.

You don't need to be a licensed dealer to make an offer. A few US states limit who can buy certain salvage or non-repairable vehicles, and those listings say so.

What DNF doesn't do

DNF is an online listing and introduction service. We aren't a dealer or a broker. We don't own, buy, sell, inspect or move vehicles, we don't negotiate for buyers or sellers, and we never handle the vehicle payment. Any platform fees are collected separately through Stripe. Sellers set their own prices and decide which offers to accept.

There are no auctions and no auction clock. We pass each offer to the seller as the buyer made it, and we never counter or suggest an amount. We don't arrange transport, export or customs.

Everything on a listing is reported by its seller. Trust and safety sets out what we check and what we don't.

The Marketplace and the Paddock

The DNF Marketplace is every listing: salvage, crash-damaged, mechanically defective, rebuilt and parts-only vehicles. Browse the Marketplace.

The DNF Paddock is a smaller set of exotic, rare, performance and collectible project vehicles that our staff pick from the Marketplace. Its line is "Exceptional machines. Unfinished stories." Picked means chosen, not inspected: we don't inspect vehicles, and every listing is as its seller reports it. Canada, the United States and Global

DNF has three views of the same listings.

• Canada shows vehicles located in Canada, priced in Canadian dollars, with each province's own brand words and guides.
• The United States shows vehicles located in the US, priced in US dollars, with each state's title brands and guides.
• Global shows every listing in both countries. When a recent Bank of Canada rate is on hand, a Canadian listing shows an approximate US dollar price, with the seller's price in Canadian dollars beside it.

The selector in the header and footer switches between them. We never move you to a view because of where you're browsing from.

Offers are always in the listing's own currency, and the buyer and seller settle the price in that currency between themselves.

Why "Damaged. Not Finished."

A vehicle can be damaged without being finished. An insurance company can declare it a total loss once the repair estimate gets close to what it was worth, but someone who can repair it, rebuild it or use its parts will often pay for value a scrap yard won't.
