How it works

Two sides of one deal. There’s no auction clock, and DNF never handles the money for the vehicle.

Selling

  1. List it for free

Start with the VIN. Then add the status brand from the registration, the damage, what still works and your photos.

  2. Buyers make offers

Buyers can offer more or less than your asking price. Their questions come to you through DNF, and your contact details stay hidden.

  3. Accept the one you want

Accept or decline each offer. There’s no auction clock, and you don’t have to take any of them.

  4. Deal direct

When you accept, you pay a success fee and the buyer pays an introduction fee. Once both fees are paid, you get each other’s contact details and sort out payment and pickup yourselves. DNF never handles the money for the vehicle.

Buying

  1. Create an account

It’s free. No dealer licence needed to make an offer.

  2. Browse open listings

Every listing shows its photos, status brand, damage, condition and Score. You don’t need to sign in.

  3. Make an offer

Offer what it’s worth to you, above or below the asking price, and send the seller your questions through DNF.

  4. Get contact details after both fees are paid

When the seller accepts, you pay an introduction fee and the seller pays a success fee. Once both fees are paid, you get each other’s contact details. See the vehicle and check its papers and any liens before you pay the seller directly.

What the Score means

2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT

79/100

Rebuild candidate

A good candidate for repair.

  1. 0–24 Parts only
  2. 25–49 Project
  3. 50–79 Rebuild candidate
  4. 80–100 Rebuilt, certificate attached

What moved it

  • Adds 20 points: Repair estimate is 3% of the value before the loss.
  • Costs 4 points: No insurer letter or repair invoice attached.
  • Costs 11 points: Above 79 needs a Rebuilt brand with its inspection certificate attached.

Each listing’s Score, out of 100, comes from the seller’s answers on the brand, damage, condition and paperwork. We don’t inspect vehicles, so treat it as a starting point.

Status brand
Unbranded or Rebuilt scores highest, Salvage a little lower. A non-repairable brand means parts only.
Damage
Hail scores best and flood or fire means parts only. The lower the repair estimate against the value, the higher the Score.
Condition
Driving under its own power scores most. Deployed airbags or known structural damage cost points.
Paperwork
The registration, an insurer letter or a repair invoice add points. 80 and up needs a Rebuilt brand with its inspection certificate attached.

Questions people ask

Is it free to list a vehicle?

Listing is free. If you accept an offer, you pay a flat success fee, shown in full before you accept and refunded in full if the sale falls through.

What do I need to list a vehicle?

The VIN, the registration’s status brand and province, the damage, whether it starts, runs and drives, and at least 4 photos, one a close-up of the damage.

What is the DNF Score?

Every listing’s Score is out of 100 and worked out from its answers on the brand, damage, condition and paperwork, with the reasons shown. We don’t inspect vehicles.

Do I need a dealer licence to buy?

Not to buy a vehicle for yourself. Anyone with a free account can make an offer on DNF. If you plan to buy vehicles to fix and resell, or to part them out as a business, your province may require a dealer or recycler licence, so check first.

How do offers work?

Offer above or below the asking price, with no auction clock. If the seller accepts, you pay an introduction fee and the seller pays a success fee. Once both fees are paid, you swap contact details and arrange payment and pickup yourselves. DNF never handles the money for the vehicle.

What do salvage, rebuilt and non-repairable mean?

They’re status brands that provinces record on a vehicle’s registration. Each province has its own words, so every listing shows the exact word and the province that issued it.

What the statuses mean

Each province has its own words for a vehicle’s status, and the status alone doesn’t describe its condition. Listings show the exact word from the registration.

Salvage
Written off after damage and usually repairable, but it must pass the province’s inspection before it can be put back on the road.
Rebuilt
A salvage vehicle that was repaired and passed the province’s inspection, so it can be put back on the road. The Rebuilt brand stays on its record.
Non-repairable
Written off for good. It can never be put back on the road, so on DNF it’s listed for parts or scrap only.
Rules differ by province, so check with your registry before you buy, repair or register a vehicle.

Selling a written-off vehicle?

List it with the VIN and the status brand. Buyers come to you with offers.
