Rebuild-video inspiration: budget for your own resources
Turn rebuild inspiration into a practical resource plan. Record labor, tools, parts and outside help under the actual terms available to you.
General guidance. No specialist review is claimed unless named on this page.
A rebuild video can give you an idea. Your budget needs a different kind of evidence: what your vehicle needs, who can supply it, how much you must pay and when. A workshop, helper or tool visible in someone else's project is not automatically available to you.
This worksheet records your own resources and commitments. The FTC's used-car guide recommends considering costs beyond the price and obtaining an independent assessment; its legal requirements concern US dealer sales.
List the resources you need
For each tool, part, service or workspace you need, record what your project needs, who can supply it, the dated terms, the supporting record, and the unresolved input. Leave missing costs unknown.
| Resource or outcome | Evidence for your private budget | Mistake the evidence should prevent |
|---|---|---|
| Labor | Written work scope, outside quote, and any owner time log | Treating a short calendar interval as a small labor requirement |
| Tools and workspace | Actual access, hire or purchase terms, storage needs, and usage period | Assuming another person's equipment is available to you |
| Outside support | Documented supply or service terms and the resource actually provided | Treating acknowledgments as evidence of free or discounted work |
| Parts | Vehicle-specific application confirmation from the provider, availability, and a dated quote | Copying a visible part choice or assuming every required item is known |
| Transport and waiting | Provider's condition brief, acceptance, quote scope, and expected dependencies | Leaving collection or storage outside the budget |
| Taxes and administration | Relevant jurisdiction, current authority or provider information, and applicable inputs | Transferring another project's local assumptions |
| Resale | Separate asking-price evidence, completed-sale record, and attributable sale costs | Treating an advertisement as money received |
Ask a qualified provider to identify the applicable vehicle-specific OEM procedures and the evidence needed to settle the proposed technical scope. Do not price unresolved technical findings as though a video had settled them.

Vehicles for sale (1)Separate the resource from its funding
Keep the resource used and the way it is funded in separate fields. Acknowledging a helper or supplier does not establish what was paid. Use your own written terms.
| Funding field | Evidence to enter from your own records | Treatment when missing |
|---|---|---|
| Cash paid | Payer, currency, payment date and receipt reference | Unknown cash requirement |
| Supplied resource | Provider, item or service, and documented terms | No assumed contribution or retail value |
| Discount or refund | Written conditions and link to the original payment | Keep pending amounts separate from received funds |
| Unpaid labor | Person, role and recorded hours | Unknown time; no assumed wage |
| Shared equipment | Ownership or hire terms and project use | No arbitrary allocation of its whole purchase cost |
| Remaining obligation | Unpaid balance, excluded work or unresolved quote | Exclude from completed-spending subtotals and retain as an open commitment |
Keep media income separate from vehicle-sale proceeds. A supplied item can be part of the resource record even when the owner made no cash payment for it. Neither situation supplies a complete project total. Record only resources and costs you can support.
Resolve missing costs before committing
Keep unknowns visible instead of substituting no cost, donated labor, or a hoped-for sale. Separate acquisition and repair spending from later ownership spending and any media income. Without that separation, even a genuine payment record may answer the wrong budget question.
Use the maximum-purchase-price worksheet after assembling your own inputs, and the estimate-scope guide when work remains undefined. Compare project vehicles against resources you can document, not resources inferred from an edited story.
Use the DIY versus paid-labor worksheet to keep owner hours separate from provider cash commitments.
Questions and answers
Can a rebuild video establish my project budget?
No. Obtain the work scope, quotes and resource terms for your own vehicle. This worksheet does not measure any creator's costs or results.
Can I copy a creator's apparent access to tools or help into my budget?
Only use resources actually available to you under documented terms. Record ownership, hire, supplied items, and outside labor separately; do not assume a credit establishes free work.
Does a resale asking price complete the budget?
No. Asking price, completed-sale evidence, and net proceeds are separate records. Without a documented sale and its costs, resale remains an unresolved assumption.
