OEM supplier part numbers: find rebuild parts beyond the badge
Use Bosch and other supplier service numbers to research replacement parts, check exact OE references and compare complete rebuild quotes without guessing fit.
General guidance. No specialist review is claimed unless named on this page.
To find a replacement beyond the vehicle-brand box, obtain the car's current service-part reference, identify an exact supplier service number, and check the supplier's application and OE-reference data. Then request comparable quotes. A Bosch logo can start that investigation; the complete Bosch order number and its catalog mapping make it useful.
This can reveal more sourcing options for a Porsche, Lamborghini or other project. It does not mean every item made by an original-equipment supplier is the factory component sold in different packaging. Price the documented alternative and the work required to use it, rather than assuming the cheaper listing is equivalent.
Which number should you look for?
Ask the repairer or parts provider for clear photographs of accessible labels and the current number assigned to your VIN. Do not remove or energize damaged equipment merely to read a marking.
Keep the original formatting in your record. A second search without spaces can help find a catalog entry, but retain leading zeroes, letter suffixes, slashes and revision identifiers when deciding what to order.
| Marking or reference | What to establish before using it |
|---|---|
| Vehicle-brand service number | The current orderable reference and any VIN or equipment restriction |
| Supplier service or article number | The supplier's complete order number, with an actual product record |
| Casting, mold or housing mark | Whether it identifies a complete service assembly or only one physical piece |
| Electronics hardware or software reference | Whether it describes the offered assembly, a controller version or something that still needs configuration |
| Batch, date or serial code | Its purpose; do not mistake a production identifier for an interchangeable product |
| Retailer's stock code | Which maker and service number the seller will actually supply |
Several markings can appear on one part. Ask which is the service reference rather than choosing whichever produces the cheapest search result. A common housing can conceal a different assembly or configuration.

Vehicles for sale (1)What do genuine, OEM and supplier-brand mean here?
Ask the seller to use explicit descriptions. A vehicle-brand genuine part is offered through that brand's parts channel. A supplier-branded service part is sold under the component maker's own article number. An independent aftermarket product has its own manufacturer and reference. A recycled genuine component is used stock with its own condition history.
Retail use of “OEM” is inconsistent. Have the quote name the actual manufacturer, service number, condition and included items. “OE quality” describes a claim about the product; it does not establish who manufactured the particular genuine part removed from your car.
Even a brand that supplies production lines can offer different service products. Ross-Tech's own support guidance describes reports of name-brand aftermarket replacements differing from the factory parts involved. That supports checking the exact product, rather than treating the supplier's name as the entire specification.
What do real Porsche-to-supplier references look like?
These examples were read in original supplier publications on October 24, 2026. They show a replacement research route, not a VIN-specific recommendation or a statement that Bosch or MANN made the Porsche-boxed original.
| Vehicle-brand reference | Supplier service reference | What the source actually gives you |
|---|---|---|
Porsche 997 602 107 00 | Bosch 0 986 221 116 | Bosch's application overview pairs these references for six-cylinder Boxster 986 and Carrera 996 applications; the row supplies no production dates or complete engine restrictions |
Porsche 948 602 104 00 | Bosch 0 986 221 070 | The same Bosch overview provides an explicit coil cross-reference for Cayenne 9PA; exact engine/VIN applicability still needs checking |
Porsche 996.107.225.52, among the page's listed references | MANN-FILTER HU 719/5 x | The catalog gives Porsche application rows and OE references for an oil-filter service element; it does not establish a genuine-part supersession chain |
Sources: Bosch's application overview and MANN-FILTER HU 719/5 x. The Bosch document is an Australian-market overview. The MANN page includes a Boxster 2.5 M 96.20 application for September 1996–September 1999 and a 996 Carrera 3.6 M 96.03 application for September 2001–August 2005; these are production periods, not universal US model-year coverage.
Search both complete references, then ask the supplier about the actual vehicle. Do not substitute another Porsche suffix because a marketplace groups it with the number in the table. A historical application flyer also does not establish current stock or the latest service revision.
Which catalogs help with the search?
Use the component maker's current resources where available. Bosch Classic supports searches using vehicle information and product identifiers for its classic range. It is not a complete catalog of every current Bosch product.
MANN-FILTER's catalog search includes product, VIN and cross-reference routes, with functions varying by market. HELLA describes vehicle, assembly and product searches with OE-number information. Record the actual result and scope; a search page alone is not evidence of a match.
Other maker names on the removed part can suggest the same process. Search their official product resources or ask an authorized distributor to supply the catalog basis. Do not treat a third-party seller's “replaces” list as though the manufacturer published it.
How do you turn the cross-reference into a saving?
Request one quote for the required vehicle-brand part and another for the documented supplier alternative. Give both providers the same vehicle and proposed repair scope. Keep every unknown visible.
| Comparable-quote field | What must be aligned |
|---|---|
| Product and quantity | Exact service number, required number of units, set versus single item |
| Condition and provenance | New, remanufactured or used; actual manufacturer and seller |
| Included items | Seals, brackets, fasteners, adapters and any separately required parts |
| Delivery basis | Same destination, currency, date, stock status, tax and import treatment |
| Installation | Any different labor, setup, coding or calibration confirmed by the repairer |
| Returns and support | Correct-product support, return conditions and who owns a fitment dispute |
| Refundable deposits | Cash required now and refund conditions, kept separate from final cost |
Calculate saving = comparable vehicle-brand total - comparable supplier-route total. Include the costs still required to complete each route. If a needed amount is unknown, the final saving is unknown. Do not subtract an unconfirmed future refund as though it has already been received.
An advertised reduction from a seller's own regular price is not evidence of savings against a genuine vehicle-brand quote. Nor is a UK price including VAT directly comparable with a US price before tax and international delivery. No fixed discount or market-wide savings rate follows from the examples above.
What should you check before ordering?
Confirm the seller and supply chain as well as the reference. Bosch describes authenticity seals on selected packages; the qualification matters. A missing seal is not by itself proof of a fake, and a copied logo is not evidence of origin. Use the maker's own checking route where it applies.
Have the repairer resolve the vehicle-specific technical requirements before purchase. A control unit, restraint, steering-related assembly or driver-assistance component may leave configuration and repair-procedure questions beyond a part-number search. This guide provides a sourcing method, not installation or substitution instructions.
Keep the catalog evidence, written compatibility response and complete quote together when comparing damaged vehicles. The opportunity is to discover a documented alternative early enough to price it accurately—not to build a budget around an unconfirmed match.

Questions and answers
Is a casting or housing mark enough to choose a replacement part?
Establish whether the mark identifies a complete service assembly or only one physical piece. Obtain the complete supplier service number and the current vehicle-brand reference for the VIN before using the catalog mapping.
Does the Bosch supplier name establish that a part matches the Porsche-boxed original?
The supplier name alone does not establish that its service product is the factory component. Check the exact order number, catalog application and vehicle-specific requirements rather than relying on a logo or an OEM description.
What belongs in the total when comparing a supplier quote with a vehicle-brand quote?
Align the exact part, quantity, condition, included items, delivery, tax and required installation work. Keep refundable deposits separate from final cost; if a required amount is unknown, the final saving is unknown.
